Advanced 16

After each high school season the coaches make recommendations for a set of players to join an Advanced 16 tryout. The goal at the end of the tryout is to be the best in Minnesota and make your way to a tournament in Lake Placid, NY. To do so, however, you've gotta have skills - mad skills.

We were a little surprised at Tyler's nomination; it came in the mail, addressed to him. He wanted to try out so we said sure... assuming he'd be cut in the first round. No negative intention toward Tyler - it's just that there are REALLY good hockey players in MN and to make the cuts is pretty hard. So, imagine our surprise when Tyler made it past the first cut to the first weekend tournament!? It went well and most importantly the experience was amazing for him. He had fun playing with kids from all over the state and reminded us that the experience is what it's all about. And, no, he didn't make the advancement to the pool of Lake Placid kids - but he did have a heck of a weekend at a tournament. The permagrin on his face is advancement enough. :-)
